The National Deputy
Publicity Secretary of the All People’s Congress (APC) Mohamed Pope Kamara has unequivocally posited that the two-time former vice president of the Republic of Sierra Leone Chief Samuel Sam Sumana is ineligible to contest for the 2028 flag-bearer position.
He underscored that this is in accordance with the dictate of the APC 2022 Constitution which demands that a person who wishes to contest for the flag-bearer position should have been a member of the party and a paid up member for the period of five years. It is against this backdrop that he said despite the return of Sam Sumana, the former vice president does not meet these criteria.
He added that Sam could be eligible in future elections when he could have met the criteria.
This development sends a shock wave to the Party, especially at a time when Sam is seen as the most suitable candidate to take APCians to the State House.
Aminata Kamara, a supporter of APC, is of the opinion that the forthcoming convention should be free and fair so the winner could reflect the will of the people. She furthered that the Party should be united to win the 2028 elections.
Samuel Sam was expelled from APC in 2015 when the National Advisory Committee unanimously agreed on the decision pursuant to section 8 of the 1995 Constitution of APC for anti-party activity.
He broke away and formed his own party Coalition for Change (C4C), winning parliamentary seats in the 2018 elections.
