The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Madam Nabella Tunis, has said announced that Sierra Leone will host this years’s UN Tourism International Conference for Women in Tourism Leadership at the Freetown International Conference Center from the 29th through 31st October 2024.
Minister Tunis described the opportunity as golden for Sierra Leone to showcase to the world its rich cultural values and touristic sites for shared benefits.
She underscored the importance of raising awareness on the tourism sector and its importance in contributing to economic growth, an endeavour, she said, is in line with President Bio’s vision for the National Development Plan.
She announced that the conferenced will bring together about 600 participants, predominantly women in Sierra Leone and around Africa to foster a healthy conversation on women’s leadership in the tourism sector.
She called on Sierra Leoneans to uphold their local tourism identity to rewrite their story and place it on the global stage for others to copy and learn.
She acknowledged the importance of local tourism, stating its rich potential ranging from hospitality to the creative industry.
She emphasized that the conference is geared towards showcasing Sierra Leone’s rich cultural values and relics sites as tourism is a sector that contributes to a nation’s development.
