Country Director of Mental Health Coalition Sierra Leone Joshua Duncan has said that one in every four or five individuals is challenged with mental health issues.
Director Ducan was responding to questions about the state of depression among people from different backgrounds and expectations.
“Mental health problems could emanate from a generic factor. Also, natural disasters can lead to them. Those who go through such experiences will be full of stress and grief.
“When it is genetic, people would tend to say a family has mental health issues. The religious would want to attribute those tendencies to demon possession,” he said.
Regarding the signs and symptoms, Director Duncan averred that people suffering from mental health problems might lose interest in things they once find pleasure doing.
The world observes Mental Health Day on the 10th of October every year.
