During Friday’s Budget hearing at the Ministry of Finance, NSA Boss Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai told finance and budget officers that the Authority needs three million dollars to fund Leone Stars’ six Afcon Qualifier matches in three months.
The visionary Boss outlined key factors ameliorating the attractiveness of sport as a reform and life-changing destination.“Sport is the biggest employer in Sierra Leone today. We go in for boys and girls in the ghettos and shanty communities where life is hopeless and take them to countries to give them a form of growth. By this, we do not only reduce community crimes but also create jobs for the youths who make up 62 percent of our population,” he told the meeting. On September 6, 2024, Leone Stars will play artificial host to Chad in Monrovia in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier before facing Zambia on September 10 in Zambia.
The country will round off the first stage against Ivory Coast on October On October 15, it will host Ivory Coast in Monrovia before going away to Chad on November 11. Its home match against Zambia on November 19 will mark the end of its Nations Cup Qualifier group stage fight. As the NSA Boss strives to make sport a revenue-generation hub in 2025 and beyond, strides are underway to curtail cost on less vital cross-border tournaments and redirect expenditures to nationwide sport facility development, coaches empowerment, and policy creation to give meaning to the country’s youthful population.
