Having little or no opportunity to support themselves, the blind are incapacitated from their independence.
The lack of support for the visually impaired is central to a number of the issues the blind or low-vision individuals face.
The Koidu School for the Blind, comprising primary, secondary and tertiary educational tiers, has fallen on bad times recently as the blind call for help.
Government’s yearly subvention is far from being enough to help alleviate the suffering the blind are undergoing at the said facility.
“We’re calling on NGO’s, philanthropists, and well-wishers to come to our aid. Some of us have been abandoned by our families for years. We are unable to take care of ourselves, and we don’t want to engage in streets
begging. That is the reason we are calling on you to support us,” said Kelly Turay, speaking on behalf of his blind colleagues.
