The Independent Media Commission has invalidated the existence of 104 newspapers and 11 magazines for non-compliance.
In its release, the IMC says the action is in contravention of Section 42 of the IMC Act of 2020.
It warns members of the public to desist from doing any business with the said newspapers and magazines as they have been instructed to cease operation henceforth.
Some of the newspapers include Sierra Leone Daily Mail, The Freetown Post, and the Cotton Tree Newspaper, while Luxury Life Magazine, African Momentum, and Global Salone Magazine are among the 11 magazines.
It reiterates its commitment to legality and the highest standard of professionalism.
Mohamed Kamara, a commentator, underscored that the IMC action undermines press freedom as the IMC should guide and norture media houses that are bankrupt.
