Minister of Health Austin Demby has vowed to set up a committee in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance to address the fuel backlogs for doctors.
The committee will comprise members from the Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, and the Civil Service Union to fulfil the fuel requirements for doctors.
Dr. Demby said the multi-partner engagement will produce a framework for the doctors to receive uninterrupted fuel service.
He added that in 2023, they successfully completed the supply of fuel to doctors and that in 2024, they have partially completed the cycle. “We are working assiduously to resolve it,” he said.
On the doctors early move, he pointed out that strike action is not the solution to their request as it is detrimental to all and sundry, especially to patients admitted.
He revealed that he had engaged the Executive of the Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA) and further initiated a meeting with the Executive and the Vice President Juldeh Jalloh for the doctors to have a rethink regarding their strike action.
