The Acting General Manager of Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL) Chrispin Ekundayo George is poised to target three thousand five hundred participants from the provinces for the first time to create cricket national identity.
This number will come from Moyamba, Bo, Kenema, and Mokonde as a pilot phase.
The Acting GM will embark on a four-day provincial tour late this week to expedite the realisation of this new move.
To get the job done, GM George says Regional Cricket Coordinators will be appointed to back up selected, trained PE teachers.
The data of PE teachers at the district level will be captured to enhance the presence of cricket in the mentioned locations. This will be reinforced by the creation of local forums where this target group will be provided with emerging cricket entry-level programmes.
“One big thing we are going to do is the forming of district cricket clubs. We are deliberate to see this done because we want cricket to play in the regions so that when selections for national assignments arise, we will have a pool of cricketers drawn from all parts of the country,” GM George explains.
The inspection of regional cricket playing facilities and the registration of PE teachers on the ICC Education App will form part of the tour.
GM George will meet with stakeholders to discuss sustainable means through which cricket can survive in the countryside.
This move will mark one of key reforms the Acting GM has embarked on since assuming the role some three weeks ago.
