The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Alpha Bah, has said that a joint judicial investigation between Guinea and Sierra Leone will be launched to investigate the transnational drug-related matter.
Speaking at the Weekly Press Briefing, Minister Bah asserted that the move is as a result of an MOU signed between Guinea and Sierra Leone. He said the MOU is in accordance with articles 3,18,19,20 and 21 of the United Nations Conventions on Transnational Organized Crime of 2000.
When asked about the whereabouts of Ambassador Alimamy, he disclosed that he is in Sierra Leone and that he was accompanied from Guinea by Timothy Kabba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
He added that the Ambassador and the Head of Chancery are expected to brief the appropriate authorities on what transpired in Guinea.
Earlier reports stated that a Sierra Leonean Embassy vehicle was impounded with seven suitcases of substance purported to be cocaine by Guinean authorities in Conakry on December 31st, 2024.
It was later learnt that the driver and an unnamed individual were arrested.
Timothy Kabba had said that the Ambassador was not in the vehicle at the time of the interception, and there has been no evidence linking him to the alleged transnational drug trafficking.
