Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Timothy Kabba joined his Guinean Counterpart Dr. Morrisanda Kauyete in an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday to clarify rumours around the deportation of hundreds of Sierra Leoneans dwelling in a slum in Guinea.
Dr. Kouyete, Guinea’s Foreign Affairs Minister, started off by tendering his apology on behalf of the President and people of Guinea to Sierra Leone regarding the unfortunate incident. He further stated that other nationalities occupying the slum have been imprisoned. “We acted in good faith to deport the Sierra Leoneans caught up in the raid back home,” he said.
On mutual ties, he asserted that Guinea and Sierra Leone are sister countries that have experienced a healthy relationship for decades, citing the dark days of the civil war in Sierra Leone when many fled to Guinea for safety.
He revealed that they want to develop the area in question . “This prompted the evacuation for construction work to start soon after,” he said.
Sierra Leone’s Timothy Kabba shed light on the power of dialogue and clarified that those repatriated are allowed to relocate to Guinea if they have a safe and healthier place to live.
The Special Envoy of President Mamady Doumbouya of Guinea earlier visited President Bio and had a fruitful delebration to resolve the issue amicably.
