Sierra Leone’s Chief Michael Shamsu Mustapha, the President of the African Traditional Sports and Games Confederation, has been appointed to serve as the Joint Secretary General for the International Council of Traditional Sports and Games (ICTSG).

Shammi Rana, the Council’ CEO, says Mustapha’s appointment reflects his outstanding contributions to the promotion and preservation of traditional sports and games both in Africa and on the global front.

“Traditional sports and games are vital to the cultural heritage of humanity, and your new role aligns with our collective mission to research, preserve, and promote these invaluable traditions,” he adds.

On August 14, 2024, NSA Boss Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai led the launch of the African Traditional Sports and Games Federation Secretariat in Freetown to begin the march towards preserving Africa’s rich culture through sports. This came shortly after he had given Namibia the greenlight to host the first edition of the African Traditional Sports and Games Tournament in 2026.
